Of course, now the lifetime price is $699 US and while I'll agree that seems somewhat startling the bottom line is that I feel very confident that I'm going to want to continue using Roon for at least 6 years, so past that point buying the lifetime access doesn't seem so ridiculous. Their server/client model is just rock stable.Ĭlick to expand.Sorry to revive an old thread but I just started a Roon trial a few days ago and I think it's safe to say I'm hooked. Once I tried Roon there was just no going back. I was a Jriver user for years and a skeptical Roon free-trial user. If you use Tidal or Qobuz, then it becomes almost a no-brainer because of the integration of those services into your Roon app/library. If you appreciate intuitive and easy to use software with absolutely no fuss then you will see the difference. It is a softer, more delicate sound than Jriver which sounded a touch harder and more digital to these ears. I don't want to get too far into sound quality debates before the double blind testers come a runnin', but I felt Roon had an edge their as well. I know which ship I want to be on going forward. In the end I kind of just felt like one software is clunky and a bit stuck in the past (Jriver) while the other feels like it is built for the future (Roon). While Jriver can indeed be a "lifetime" purchase for $80, I was finding myself updating with their yearly releases for $50 per year anyway. Their server/client model is just rock stable.
